It's out!

Hello! Just a quick little post! Had to share ....... middle bug lost his first tooth this morning! He was so excited about it and can't wait to go sleep so the "Tooth Fairy" can come and visit him and leave him something :-) Gotta love the kiddies!

Oh, and then I made, for the very first time ever, samoosas! I love these little triangles, my kids love them, and my hubby  loves them, and normally I just go out and buy loads of them! But I got to thinking that if I save what I normally spend on buying them, by making them myself, then I'd have more money to get much needed stash...
Makes sense? Right? Knew you'd understand :-)
So I made a batch last night (4 dozen of them to be exact) and they tasted even better than the ones I buy :-) They've been popped into the freezer, ready to be fried whenever the urge to snack descends on my tummy!

It's a gorgeous bright day out here in Jozi, even though the air is a tad chilly this morning, but at least the sky is clear and there's no chance of rain!

Have a brilliant day all!

Weekend Update

What a lovely, busy weekend it's been! So much to do and so little time!

Saturday morning saw our brave little soccer stars return to the competition field for the first time in 3 weeks - and boy oh boy did they play! They were absolutely brilliant and played like demons, winning the match by 7 (yes seven!) goals! Yes I know that it isn't the world cup, but I am so proud of them!

Then I decided that I needed a break from the lions and needed to do some quick stitching, so I did a quick bookmark (forgot to take a pic so will do so tomorrow and show), and started my foray into linen. I chose a Lizzie Kate design called Flora McSampler - Heart Sampler, and is stitched on 28 count  mint green Cashel linen with DMC threads. Everything seemed to be going well, and after a short break, I took my piece off the frame to re-position it, when I was struck with horror..... can you spot the mistake?

Well basically I had started my stitching the wrong way (if that makes sense) and wouldn't have enough fabric on the sides to finish the design properly! So out with each and every stitch, and had to start from scratch! I stitched on it Saturday evening and part of Sunday, and this is as far as I've come:

Stitched the "right" way - lengthwise

Sunday evening saw me back with the lions again, but I'll post another update on them later :-)
And that's where I'm heading to now....back to the Lions! Gotta do a few more stitches on them before sleepy time! Have a lovely evening everyone.

Oh goody goody goody!!!!!!! Just got the news that I had passed my Financial Management exams that I wrote a few weeks back!!!!! Can you tell how excited, ecstatic and elated I am :-) This was the last exam in a course that I was busy with and now I can relax and get along with the things that matter - stitching!

Have a lovely day all!

Lions' Progress

Have you noticed how the weekends a pass along much quicker than it did a few years ago? Is this because we've all become so much busier or is the earth orbiting around the sun at a much faster speed thus making our weekends go faster? Or is it just a case of someone's stuck the weekend in the dryer and it's shrunk? :)

Be that as it may,as you can see I've managed to do a few extra stitches on the Lions - as always not as much as I wanted to but I guess I'll just keep plodding along!

Yesterday was the birthday of who must be South Africa's most loved statesman - Tata Madiba (Nelson Mandela) turned 93! Oh that this great icon had to live to see the day when all he's fought for is being undermined by corruption and petty politics! *sigh*

The kids are all off to school as well! Yippee for them! They couldn't wait to get back at it and were chomping at the bit yesterday ...... and then they were forced to wait as I had forgotten my car keys in hubby's car and had to wait for them to be brought back so I could leave! Am I clever or what :-)

Have a lovely day all!

Like a dervish!

The last few days have been a whirlwind and flurry of activity ….. pity it hasn’t been stitchy activity!

My mother - and sister-in-law returned to Cape Town on Tuesday so my home is slowly quieting in preparation for the end of the school holidays!
I’ve managed to get about 400 stitches done on the lion for this week but seeing how much I still need to do is so scarey! While dad’s birthday is in August, I’ll only be going to Cape Town at the end of August, so that gives me an extra week to stitch.

My sister-in-law also called me yesterday to say that she is getting engaged! We are all so excited! She’s in her 40’s and has never had a serious boyfriend, and he’s turning 50, never been married or in a serious relationship either, so we’re all pleased as punch about this J I don’t know how many folks still do this, but it’s sort of our tradition to have a formal engagement where his family will ask her family permission to marry. They’ll be doing this when we’re down in Cape Town in September so this is another reason to look forward to our trip!

Wishing you all  a lovely weekend!

A bookmark, a pirate and a card

Why is it that Monday's always come upon you so much quicker than Fridays? :-)
I do hope that you all had a lovely weekend! Lucky for me all soccer matches are off during the school holidays (only practise as normal!), so I didn't have to get up early on Saturday to stand on the side of a soccer field in the cold :-P

My partner in the Bookmark Exchange on OpenMinders let me know that she's received her bookmark so I can now show it!

I am particularly proud of this as it combined cross-stitch, french knots, satin stitch, back stitch and one that I'm unfamiliar with, turkey stitch! I thoroughly enjoyed stitching this bookmark and will have to make one for myself sometime!

My youngest bug was invited to a "Pirate Party" on Sunday. I managed to find a pirate suit at one of the toy shops that wouldn't require me handing over half my paycheck and my buggy as so excited and pleased with her outfit!

I also spent the weekend doing this little stitch for the Summer Card Exchange on Open Minders.

Now I need to buckle down and get cracking with dad's lions! I'm starting to think that I bit off more than I can chew with my deadline!

Have a lovely day everyone! Keep safe and have fun!

She's Home!!!

My eldest arrived home last night after her week away in Cape Town! She is still totally excited and couldn't stop speaking about the great time she had! Yes she's been to Cape Town many many times (in fact she was born there), but this time it was without mommy or daddy being with and no family visits everyday. She got to do the things that tourists visiting our fair Mother City gets to do! They visited the museum where the first heart transplant was performed (for those who don't know, the very first heart transplant ever was performed right here in South Africa by Dr Chris Barnard), they went to Robben Island where our first democratically elected president was imprisoned for 27 years (Nelson Mandela); they went up the cable car to the top of Table Mountain (I've climbed the mountain but never done the cable car!); they visited museums; they went bowling; they went shopping; and on and on and on.... :-)
She was like a little motor mouth - just couldn't stop talking all the way from the airport home! It's lovely having her back home!

Have a lovely day all!

A long weekend!

Well after Friday’s exam ( on which I shall pass no comment :-P ) I decided that I needed some time out. The weekend was absolutely crazy – mother and sister in-law arrived on Friday evening, and my brother and his partner decided to also spend another weekend before he headed back home for Cape Town. So as you can well imagine there was very little time to just chill and unwind from my exam. That’s why I took Monday and Tuesday as leave days from work.
As it had been my sister-in-law’s birthday on Thursday, I took her for a lovely foot massage – and had one too  It was heavenly! Then a spot of shopping (not crafty as she doesn’t craft at all) and lunch! It was so lovely! The kids were, ofcourse, at home with MIL! And yesterday was just for me! Went and had my hair done at the salon, then a bit of shopping too (can you tell I love shopping? ) and a lovely lunch all by myself! I really enjoyed the time out!
One of the ladies I work with had a her birthday on Friday and since I wasn’t at work, I got her this beautiful African Lady carved figure as a gift. I just loved her when I saw her and would have bought one for myself too, but she was the last one left! Isn’t she a beauty?

I haven’t stitched a single stitch these past 3 days either… been busy reading my books and have spent quite a bit of time doing some online reading too. What is it about hitting 40 that makes one reflect about one’s life and choices? "sigh*

While there has been no stitching for the past 3 days, I did make a little further progress on “Lions” and will definitely have to do some long stitchy nights to get them done in time for Dad’s birthday!

Still a ways to go!
Tonight is another night on the soccer field, so expecting to become a popsicle in the cold 
