Goals, Biscornu and Temptation

Can you believe that February 2012 will soon be part of the history books? Which means that there are 10 more months left to finish off 14 crazies! Oh my! Oh my! Oh my! Should I start panicking yet?

I've decided to nick Ruth's idea of setting monthly goals. Maybe this will spur me on to greater heights :)
So without any further ado, a drum roll if you please ......
March Goals
  • Finish "Power and Grace"
  • Start Dawn of Spring" SAL
  • Start my Round Robin for OM
  • Complete the letters A-C of Chris Davenport's "Alphabet Learner"
  • Watch my "Learning to Crochet" DVD and complete a practise block
Not that many but I'm playing this by ear - don't want to get too many on the list and complete none!

As my partner in the Spring Biscornu Exchange has received my biscornu, I can now show you what I had stitched

"Butterflies Biscornu" by Rainburst Embroidery
Stitched on 28ct Ivory Jobelan with recommended  threads and MH beads

The bottom of this biscornu is a lovely celtic knot design

Bottom of "Butterflies Biscornu"
I'm afraid that I have allowed myself to be led into temptation ..... again! HAED is having a 50% off leap year sale that ends this evening, so I got myself these 3 lovelies
Storykeep Ravens / QS Severeille / Mini Curl Up with a Good Book
Now to find the time to stitch these too!

TUSAL Update - I'm late!

That indeed I am! I had planned on being a good girl and posting my TUSAL update last week - had even packed along my ORTS in my suitcase so that I could take the pic - but unfortunately I couldn't get internet connectivity! I really cannot blog on my phone so it had to wait ......

And here they are ...... my Feb orts... sorry the pic ain't all that great!

While a wonderful time was had last week (both at the conference as well as with my mom and dad) I did not get to stitch - not even half of a back stitch! Nothing! I did however get loadssss of reading done! In the week I finished off Pride and Prejudice (which I loved!) , and then finished the following books:
Ink Exchange by Melissa Marr
Dr. Dad by Judith Arnold
High Country Pride by Lynn Erickson

Amazing how much reading you can get done when you don't have to be up the next morning to dash the kids off to school and then spend the day in an office!

It's been almost a year that I've been in blogland - amazing as I had not thought that I would be able to keep it up :) So watch this space .......

Have a lovely day all - I've already been out and about visiting most of your blogs to play some kind of catch up, but know there are still a few more that I need to visit!

Take care x x

Sweet Sunday!

Well, after a a rumbustious Saturday, I spent the evening doing very little....actually I admit - I did not stitch a stitch! Rather, I started a new book - Ruth  you'll be pleased to know that I've started Pride and Prejudice and am enjoying what I've read so far (the first few chapters).

I decided to keep Sunday quiet and managed to do a little bit of this and that :)

I did a bit of stitching the afternoon on my Calcico Crossroads kitty which is my Crazy from Day 3. This was what it looked like when I left it on Day 3

"The Other White Meat" by Calico Crossroads
And this is what it looked like when I stopped working on it at about 6pm yesterday

"The Other White Meat" by Calico Crossroads
Stiched on 14ct White Aida with DMC threads

In between the stitching there was ofcourse the making of lunch and then some baking (no helpers this time though as they were taking a swim while Dad watched them)

Muffin anyone?
Last night I picked up one of my old pieces - which brings me to the question "When is a WIP no longer a WIP, but a UFO?" or "When is a UFO no longer a UFO?" - I've had The Lions in my work basket all this time but have really not stitched on it for a few months - hence the question.
I'd thought that I had a pic of where I had last left it but that was not the case. I put in about 400 stitches though....

Lions - Power and Grace by John Clayton
Stitched on 27 ct evenweave with DMC threads
I have yet to decide what I am stitching on this week - it may just be some more of the lions, or maybe I need to pick up Enchantress again ....will decide this evening.

My work is having it's annual conference over the next few days, so tomorrow morning bright and early I am boarding a plane to Cape Town. We should be flying back on Thursday, but I've decided to spend the weekend there with my folks so will only be back on Sunday evening. I'm looking forward to spending some time at home with the old people :)

Have yourselves a wonderful week!

"The Library" updated

Happy Saturday everyone! Oh thank goodness for the weekend! To all of you doing the IHSW - wishing you smoking needles to get loads done!

I've spent most of this week stitching The Library - in between soccer practises, parents meetings, and school socials .... I swear my kids have more of a social life than me! So this is where I had left it on Day 7 ...

LHN "The Library" stitched on 32 count Laguna

And this is how far I had got with it after Thursday evening

"The Library" by LHN
Stitched on 32 ct "Days Gone By" Jobelan
No stitching for me today either .... maybe a little later this evening. Middle bug has 2 friends over and Little bug has one of her friends over .... so I've been playing lifesaver at the pool watching 3 boisterous boys and 2 precocious little girls! I've taken them out to run around in the garden so that I could post this :)

Not sure what I'm going to do later ......or if I'm going to have the energy to do anything!

Before I forget, a very warm welcome to all my new visitors, and a special "hello!!!!" to Joanne who is the 50th Reader of my insane ramblings :) Half a century .... whoop whoop!!!!

Enjoy the weekend everyone :)

Quick hello and a giveaway

Hello and hello again from good old Jozi, South Africa :) Hope you've all been busy this week with lots of interesting things! I've been busy with my LHN "The Library". Monday and Wednesday evenings are spent back on the soccer field - our pre-season training has started up so that's where you'll find me :)

The very talented Ruth over at Ruth's Little Leprechauns is having a lovely giveaway. It's definitely worth going to have a peak at! Or maybe not....then I stand a better chance of getting my hands on that chocolate and other bits :)

Have a wonderful Friday all!

Mail and choices!

There are days when you just have to love what you get in the mail :) And today has certainly been a good one!

With all the excitement of the past week I'm afraid that I only managed to get my Spring biscornu into the mail today - and what did I get in my mail box? This beauty .....

Spring Biscornu Exchange

This biscornu is even more special as it was Mary's first attempt at making one - and I think she has done spendidly marvelous!

As mentioned before, I've signed up for "The Dawn of Spring" SAL being hosted at the Friendly Stitches. I've decided on my fabric - called "Confetti" by Picture This Plus - but deciding on the threads has been a lot more challenging than I assumed it would be. I've narrowed it down to these 3 schemes:

Blue-ish and Pinks

Decisions.....Decisions..... I'm leaning towards the Pastels...but I like the blue/pinks too!

I've decided to devote the better part of this week to stitching on "The Library", so that's where I'm heading to now. Have a wonderful evening everyone!

I've been....

chasing my own tail the last few days! Or rather that's what it's been feeling like!

Hubby has had to have an op - nothing major - he was losing he's hearing in his right ear due to the calcification of the stapes(those small bones in the ear), so decided to have an implant done. The op has been a success but this has meant that I've been doing drop offs and pick ups of all three bugs - which has been taxing as I still have a day job to report to :( I've been so pooped that I haven't managed much stitching so no pics today! I haven't even decided on my crazy stitch for the week either!

This evening elder bug's school has a big induction for all their grade 8 learners,so guess where I'll be! And tomorrow it's orthodontist appointments for her (which dad normally carts her to and from) - I think I am going to have to cancel that! urrrgggghhh!

Ok....rant over! At some time this evening I need to choose my fabric and threads for the SAL that's being organised at Friendly Stitchers. The design has been charted by a very talented and lovely mouse and the little sneak peak she's given us is gorgeous! It's a band sampler called "Dawn of Spring" - I'm looking forward to this one :)

So I'm off to the school meeting - hope you all are having more fun!

A Quick Post ...

So after the pirate debacle, I did exactly what Ruth suggested and had a little sulk - no stitching last night! Tonight it will be back to the spring biscornu - finishing it off this weekend so I can have it in the post on Monday!

Now a quick question - I'm often wanting to respond to comments, but need to admit (rather red faced here) that I am not quite sure how. I can't seem to find a "reply" button. So if one of you  kind souls know what I'm doing wrong, please let me know :)

I had meant to make mention of the absolutely generous give-away that Barbara over at "To Stitch or Not to Stitch" is having. Not only is a gorgeous little Shepherd's Bush sachet (stitched by Barbara) included, in the giveaway, but she's extended her giveaway to include a selection of other bits...including a box of chocolates! Entries close on Saturday so head here to be entered :)

Have a lovely weekend everyone! Hope Monsieur Le Frog gives you a miss :)

Can you say "Idiot!"?

I most certainly can....and have been saying it for the last five minutes or so! And will no doubt be saying it again tomorrow when I frog the entire Pirate Queen!

I suppose I should start at the beginning, right? Now, as mentioned before, this week had me stitching on PQ. And I've made pretty good progress....or so I thought.

From this ....

Pirate Queen

To this....

Pirate Queen
1 February
before the great frog session!

Great going...right? Except that I've just realised that in a moment of brilliance, I'd started her completely off centre!!! I have no one to blame but myself, and if I could I'd be kicking my own behind! But since I can't do that, I'm going to have to rip it all out and start from scratch. Want to take a wild guess about what I'm doing tomorrow evening??

I do hope that you all have had much better luck this week that myself though!
