A drum roll and cymbal crash if you please!!

As I have one last whoop-dee-doooo finish to celebrate!!!

Yes I do!! I do!!! And it's not a little finish either :P ('s not HAED  sized....but well it did take me a while!)

I present to all it's splendour ....King of the Castle!!

King of the Castle by Jenny Barton
Featured in WOCS Issue 187
Stitched using DMC threads and metalics
on 28 ct evenweave
Yes I know it's a rather tatty pic,.....I haven't mastered the art of taking stunning pics :P

Here's a little close up of the part my son thinks is so cool.....the creepy eyes (his words!)

He's a very happy just have to get it to the framer!

I've been home these past two weeks with the kiddies and we've certainly been doing loads! From movies to swimming....tree climbing and paintballing (ok...I didn't climb the tree or shoot....that's what their dad does :D I just go along for the drive!) and relaxing!

Hope you're all enjoying your holidays....stay safe!

Take care

I mean really honestly and truely!! How frustrating !!!

I've been working on this piece during the week.....

Sunflowers in Summer
I've managed to get quite a bit along the way......

So what exactly has me frustrated?
Well.....let me explain (I'll try to be brief!)

I purchased the supplies for this about 3 years ago.....along with a load of other bits and it was one of the pieces I had chosen to stitch in the 2012 CJC. Being the bright crayon in the box.....I didn't exactly think that I may have needed more than 1 skein. And the pattern doesn't give an indication anywhere about how much you'd need either..... dilema.....I am about out of the green...and need another skein., I go to purchase ONE skein of Baby this is all I need......
And I find it.....One skein is about $2 at most of the shops.....BUT would you believe me when I say that  every single one of them wants to charge me about $7 to post???? Really????? ONE skein???? How much does ONE skein weigh that they are charging me three times the cost in postage???? Surely even costing in the envelope to place said skein into.....$7???!!!!!!

As Gentle Arts is an overdye, and I've already done the bottom lettering and swirls in it, I'm left with the dilema of either ripping out the lettering and using a DMC substitute, or just leaving it until I get an order together that would justify this ridiculousness.....
Let's hope brother gives me a voucher for my birthday in Jan......then I can get some bits !

Now.....enough of the ranting.......

As KimM was the only stitcher who indicated that she'd love the TP, I'm happy to say that it'll be back on it's way to the USA soon!

Hope you all had wonderful weekends :)

Take care

Travelling Pattern is ready to Travel!

After waiting a couple of months to get here (thanks to our 4 month postal strike!), I am happy to announce that this little jewel is ready to continue it's travels across the globe :)

I had not wanted to start stitching it until I knew for certain that the strike was started it on Saturday, and put the last stitch  in last night :)

"Count Your Blessings" by Shakespear's Peddler
Stitched on 16 ct aida
Using a mix of DMC, Gentle Arts & WDW threads

This chart has been to quite a few places over it's many years of travels - Oklahoma, Canada, Greece, South Africa (two trips here actually!), Ireland, France and Spain.

Would you like to be stitcher # 42?

If so please leave a comment below :)

The only requirements to be considered as the next stitcher is that you promise to stitch it up quickly (which I really did....just had to delay getting started as I didn't want to post it out while the strike was on and risk it going awol!), and post a pic on your blog!

Another finish for 2014....yay!!

Have a great week further all :)

Take care

EDIT: Forgot to add that I'll post this out on Monday :)

When is enough.....really ENOUGH?

I've spent the weekend clearing out my craft room. Hubby has more need of the space as an office, and as I really don't *use* the room for anything other than to keep my bits and bobs in (I normally move the sewing machine into the diningroom whenever I have to use it and I stitch in the lounge infront of the telly every evening). I decided that the room would be best used as his study.

Now....what this has meant is that I needed to wade through my *stuff*. And as I moved everything out of the room....I realised that I've become consumed with things.....there's just so many things! I have enough fabric to complete quite a few I may have to use a different colour or count....but is that really so bad? I have more patterns than I'll ever get through.....with still more on it's way from orders stuck in the system during our postal strike! There are more magazines than I'll ever stitch through......

And then there were the Black Friday emails....tempting me and seducing me to come and spend money that I could ill afford...which...I am happy to report...I managed to resist!

So....I asked myself....when is enough ......enough?

I've allowed myself two little luxuries for the new year....the Serenity Harbour BOM Club...and Jenny's Monthly Stitchery Club.....but have decided that that will be it. There will be no more purchasing of stitchy supplies! Once my fabrics finally get here (the ones that's still stuck in the mailing system) then I shouldn't need to purchase more....I have enough....

I've already loaded a box with magazines and books that I know I will not use and am hoping to sell it on a local auction site here. At this point I just need to declutter. And I'm seriously hoping that I'll be able to do so.

Do you have just enough? Or too much? Are you decluttering? Or still building up your stash?

Well....if I win stash then that is a totally different story now isn't it? :)

And speaking of's a few more lovelies from Nancy!
- Choose between a Quacker style chart or a Christmas chart here
- You get to pick....again! Floss, fabric or trims here
- Choose between a $25 Gift Voucher or a Surprise Package here

Mega Mini #4 & Smalls SAL

Unlike last month's MMMM (hosted by Justine this month!) where I focussed exclusively on minis and stitched something extra for the Smalls SAL, I decided that for this month I'd focus on a mini/small that was bundled in my "Box of Shame" - that dark place I hide my UFOs so as not to be haunted by their pitiful cries!

I am absolutely ecstatic  about being able to cross another project off my list of pre-2014 WIPS/UFOs!

A drum roll if you please for my absolutely gorgeous little piece ! :D
Yes yes...I know we aren't supposed to call our own pieces gorgeous and that normally we focus on the fact that we miscounted ....but I am so happy about this little piece that I've decided to overlook the fact that the beads are not quite where they are supposed to be and that I didn't quite do the whip stitch as it should have been and I used 2 threads for one set of stitches when I should have used 1...and etc etc etc :D

I'm just going to bask in it's tiny glory and be happy :)

Little piece of loveliness :)

Now....before I forget...Nancy has listed some more giveaways .....

- Another choice....linen aida or floss here! How do you decide??!
- A surprise gift specially selected by Nancy here

There's still some time to enter any or all of her give-aways, so don't delay!

To those who celebrate Thanksgiving, have a wonderful day :)

Mega Mini #3 .....TUSAL & more give-aways :)

Well.....that's rather a mouthful for a post title isn't it? But it kinda covers it all :D

I've been working on my biscornu top (or is that bottom??) this week. Funny how this little piece takes so long! It's just so fiddly!!!'s finally done!

"Colonial Rose Biscornu" by The Sweetheart Tree

Top and bottom....side by side...

Now to stitch them together! Which is the plan for this week :)

Daffycat hosts the Totally Useless Stitch-A-Long :) And it's that time of the month again to here are my orts for the month!

Quite a bit of them....and some fluff from those moments when I had to frog....

I'm pretty sure that the  whole of blogland is aware of Nancy's generosity.....but if you haven't yet....then do head over to her blog and enter the give-aways that interest you! I've mentioned a few in my last post here, and since then...there has been a few more that she's holding....
 - choose between a gift voucher or fabric here
 - a stunning sewing necessaire here
 - a choice of any chart in her ebay store, here
 - a surprise present here
 - more floss (40 skeins!) here

Any plans for Sunday? As it's just me and the kiddies (hubby is off travelling again!) we're off to the movies tomorrow to watch "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day" :D
Should be fun! I saw a trailer and it had a kangaroo in it.....and an alligator! (Well....I *think* it's an alligator...but it could very well have been a crocodile for all I know!)

Hope you're enjoying your Saturday afternoons and that you'll have a wonderfu Sunday :)

IHSW & Mail....wonderful mail!

Did you all have good weekends? :) Did you hermit? Or go our and do fun stuff?  Or was is just a plain old "blech" weekend?

I actually had a bit of it all this weekend! Let's see....the little buggies had a bit of a tummy bug so Friday and Saturday were spent trying to cheer them up....inbetween trying to stitch too!
And Sunday was a bit of a fun day! I got to have a massage.....we went to the movies ( watched Tarzan)....and ofcourse I stitched!

Remember this?

That I had unpicked and restarted?
Well I had done  some work on it last week, so at the start of the weekend I had this......
Believe me....the fabrics are the exact same....the first is just a really shoddy pic!

Anyhoo.....I'm pleased to say that there was progress this weekend! (yes another shoddy pic....sorry!)

"Sunflowers in Summer" by CCN
Stitched on 30 ct WDW linen - "cocoa"
using recommended threads

I will have another finish from my 2012 CJC by the end of this year!

Oh! And I almost forgot....Friday is kind of part of the weekend! And after almost 3 months of an empty post box....I had mail!!!! WHOOPEEEE!!!!!!!
You see....our wonderful postal service has been on strike for's now in it's 4th month! Most frustrating!! BUT! I got some of my long awaited bits.......

All of this........

And hidden in these little packages were these...

In September (yes that long ago!), I got chosen to be #41 to stitch the Travelling Pattern "Count your Blessings" by Shakespeare's Peddler. Gillie, very kindly included the second chart....sorry I seem to be having a spate of bad pic taking, but the chart is "Blooms of Spring" by Hands to Work :)

The rest of the little packages are all ebay purchases made in August....

Lovely fabric trims lace and stuff!

My set of crochet hooks!!!

I'm a happy little bunny :)
There's still quite a few things that's out in the land of I'll be watching my box until I know that it's all here!

Now....I know that I'm trying to wittle down my WIPS and shouldn't be signing up for anything new....but I couldn't help myself....I tried not to...I did! But....I am weak willed and have no discipline...sooooo.....I have signed up to participate in Donna's (from "By The Bay Needleart") year long block of the month. It's an absolutely gorgeous design that Donna has designed and will be releasing over the 12 months of 2015. You really do need to head over to her blog and read all about it and see this beauty yourself!

And as a final note....have you headed over to Nancy's ? She has some really really lovely give-aways planned - from hand dyed linen  or aida(three chances to win!), to  floss and trims, charts and a gift voucher  or two to her ebay store! Do yourself a huge favour and head over and enter them :)
In addition to the give-aways, she is also offering some really super savings...check them out here

I hope you all have a lovely week!

Mega Mini Movember #2

Well well.... Another week of November down! And it's been a fairly unproductive one this end of the planet!

As I may have previously mentioned, I stitch at night... which means that I need extra lighting. I have a standing lamp that I use a daylight globe with and it works perfectly for me. Well...I should say worked! It decided that it had had enough of my late night shenanigans and made a strange crackling sound (nearly wet myself in fright when it did that!!) before spewing forth a cough of smoke! So no lamp >(

I eventually couldn't any longer and went to get a small one on Wednesday. It's not what I wanted but it sheds sufficient light to let me stitch.

And this is what I've done on the mini...

Colonial Rose Biscornu by The Sweetheart Tree
stitched on 32 count Rue Green Belfast linen
with recommended threads

Top all finished... beaded and all :)
I'll get started on the bottom half next week

It's IHSW this weekend so I've been working on my second piece for the month. Hopefully I'll get some of that done too!

If you're hermitting then do have fun!

Mega Mini November!

Have you signed up for this month's MMMM? Our lovely hostess this month is Justine :)

Last month was a great success, and saw me having 11 mini finishes - 5 cards, 3 bookmarks; 2 small pillows and a fob :)

Of course I worked exclusively on minis - which meant no progress on my HAED...or Castle...or any of the oher pieces whose pitiful cries begging to be taken out of the UFO box has been steadfastly ignored...

So this month will see me tackling minis in a slightly different manner. I have  one or two small pieces in my UFO box that I'll be dusting off....starting with this piece

I started this piece way back in 2012 ....the year "Mad Stitcher Disease" struck and I signed up to participate in the Crazy January Challenge......
I put in the first few stitches as you see above and that was that......this poor  piece has been languishing in the dark recesses of the "Box of Shame" waiting for it's moment to shine!

I know it doesn't look like much here....but like a butterfly, this ugly duckling will metamorphasise into a gorgeous swan before the end of this month....and I'll have one more finish to knock off that list on the right! Can you guess what this piece is? :D

I've taken another piece from my box to work on this month....

I've frogged this bit though.....Decided that I didn't want to start here so essentially this piece will be done from scracth. I *think* I should be able to get this done during the month too! Fingers crossed!

I'll be back with some progress shots on my mini and some more details on what it is pretty soon :)

Take care

October Smalls SAL & some great give-aways :)

Well it's time for the Smalls SALupdate. This SAL is  hosted by Heather of Stitching Lotus and you can read more about it here

As I've been working exclusively on smalls this month and have already shared most of them with you, this is the one I finished last night :)

Freebie design by Erica Michaels
Stitched 1x1 on hand dyed evenweave
Using DMC and House of Embroidery threads

I had previously stitched this as an exchange piece and finished it off as a needlebook

I'm thinking that while this new version is slightly smaller than the first as I had stiched it over 1, I'll probably finish it off as a needlebook too :)

You can find this and other charts here :)

If you haven't entered her give-aways yet (yes there's more than one!), then please head over to Nancy of Victorian Motto Sampler Shoppe who is hosting a few of them!

First off there's the Halloween Sampler chart giveaway here - closing date to enter the 31st October

Then she's giving away her EIGHTY skeins of her 1795 Sampler Floss Collection! (I'm drooling at the thought of that!!) Closing date to enter is the 15th November so head over here and enter :) She'll be selecting two winners - how generous!!

Mega Mini Month Madness Week 4 :)

Busy week? Get much done? Or just reel from day to day and pray that the weekend would hurry up and get there ? :D

Mine was a bit of a mix really.....once I got over Wednesday it was pretty smooth sailing! I think that could very well be because my boss was off from Thursday celebrating Diwali so being in the office was so much less hurried and frenetic than usual!

On the stitchy front....I managed to get these lovelies completed....

Cover kit - CorssStitcher Magazine
Issue 279 - June 2014

I love owls! I know that the whole idea that they're wise is really a misconception.....but to me they're really gorgeous birds. I have a collection of them not real ones :)....I should take a pic and share them one day!

I stitched this little bitty on some evenweave that I'd purchased a couple of years ago....I wanted it small enough to be a fob so stitched it over 1. I have a feeling though that my eldest is going to claim this as her own though.....not that she stitches (that's my youngest bug's thing!) but she'll no doubt use it on one of her bags.....guess that's an excuse to stitch another!

Halloween Snail designed by Barbara Ana
Stitched on evenweave
DMC threads over 1 x 1

I really have no idea why I've waited this long to stitch Halloween designs! It's not really a huge thing here BUT the designs are such fun that I think it's fast becoming my favourite stitchy holiday! If you'd like to stitch this freebie, then head on over here

Have a wonderful week all....until next post!

Take care

Around the World Blog Hop

I'm late with this post....I know I am should have been posted on Monday...but life and it's grubby little fingers kept interfering! But enough of the excuses!

I received an email from Brigitte who can be found blogging here, "At Brigitte's Place", inviting me to participate in this fun, friendly hop around the world in cyberland :) Thanks for the invitation Brigitte! If you haven't yet visited her, you should have a peek at the eye candy Brigitte has on her blog! part of the hop, there are a few questions that are asked....which I'll attempt to answer without going off the beaten track!

The questions are:
1. What are you currently working on?
2. How does my work differ from others?
3. Why do I write/create/do what I do?
4. How does my creating process work?

Well...let's answer what I'm working on brings a blush of shame and embarrasment to my cheeks! Before discovering the wonderful world of blogland and forums and with the assistance of enablers from all over the world (even if they may not be aware that they're enablers!) I went from a "one project" lass to a "driven out of my mind by too many things on the go" lass! I have a few really HUGE projects on the go....ummmm....ok....not everyone would call them huge, but in my book they're HUGE...HUGE!

I started my first HAED design this year June...and after 4 months I managed to complete the first column on the first page, and a smidge more!

Once I finish about 185,000 stitches....I'll have this piece of gorgeousness!

HAED - Garden of Delight
by Willian Morris
Stitched 1x1 on 25ct evenweave with DMC threads

Check back in about 10 years :D

I am also trying to work my way through the starts I made in 2012 when I signed up for Crazy January Challenge....ummm......I won't comment on the moment of insanity! Needless to say I am slowly whittling through the pile! There's a list of projects I currently have on the go on the right hand side of my you  can have a look see if you'd like to see what other biggy bits I'm playing with. To entertain myself I try and rotate pieces and am currently participating in the Mega Mini Month Madness hosted by Pull the Other Thread as well as the 2014 Smalls SAL being hosted by Heather at Stitching Lotus.

What I do is not in any way different or special to any crafter.....except I may bea WHOLE lot slower at it! I've never been a speedy stitcher - and I generally only stitch at night once my tribe of 4 (yes I counted hubby in with the kids!) has been sent to bed!

Other than cross-stitching, I  practise rudimentary knitting and surface embroidery....have tried to dabble in hardanger (not with great success ....YET!) and taught myself to crochet using a variety of books and You Tube and Blog tutorials. My sewing machine was finally dusted off this year and I'm trying to teach myself how to use it properly....hopefully there'll be a quilt someday!

There is no process to my madness....I just DO...and hope it turns out alrighty!

And I know this is not one of the questions but I wanted to share either ways (the beaten track I mentioned up at the top :D

When I was a children (not so long ago I know :P) we were forced to do needlework at Primary School as a subject....yes FORCED to!!! I HATED it! My embroidery pieces had so many holes in them my mum had to to fix them ALL THE TIME! My knitting pieces had even more holes in that they were beyond redemption and I have a very distinct memory of having to put my hand out for a few whacks from the ruler as I had "forgotten" my knitting that day.....yes......back when teachers were allowed to discipline kids with a ruler! Anyways....that's a topic for another discussion...I'm merely trying to let you know how much I detested and hated and abhored any form of needlework! As soon as I got to High School and could drop the hateful subject...I did! I did Home Economics which wasn't *that* much better...but hey! At least I could EAT the products of my ventures! And then.....about 10 years ago, I bought a small surface embroidery kit and played with it to relieve my boredom.....and about 6 years ago a friend of mine showed me cross stitch....and I was hooked! Now who would have guessed that the little girl in pigtails (yes....I really did have 2 pigtails!) would end up enjoying creating with her hands again? :)

Anyways....if you managed to make it through all that rambling....thanks for reading!

Now...I needed to pass the baton along to other bloggers, but unfortunately most of my ladies were unable to play along. Justine was invited to play along by another blogger.....and since she'll be posting her responses next week Monday, 27th October, head on over to her blog here and get to know a lil bit more about this very talented lady!

Hope you all have a great week!

Until the next post!

Take care
