Season's Greetings :)

Would you believe that not only has Christmas come and gone....but 2015 is just about on the brink of being a distant memory too! I do hope that all who celebrates Christmas had a wonderful day with family and loved ones, and if you don't celebrate the holidays, that you at least managed to get some rest and have a wonderful day too!

I've been rather busy (so what's new huh!) with family and pets and just about everything!

My younger sister and her kids as well as my brother has been visiting from Cape Town so it was a whirlwind of busyness and eating.....oh my.....the eating!!! I've never felt more like a stuffed porker than these past few weeks! My youngest niece is still with us as it's also our summer holidays.

I have been stitching.....promise! Still plodding away at "Serenity". Plodding along does make it sound like it's an unpleasant task....but it's not! It's just that the piece has such a high stitch coverage - rather like HAEDs! I've finished Part 5 and have made some lovely headway since taking this pic

Sorry about the rather crappy quality of the pic.....no idea why it's shrunk!

Donna has designed a gorgeous needlebook kit as well.....I'm so excited about it!

There has also been some knitting taking place....

This will eventually be a monkey for my new nephew.

I also had a visit from the postman a few months back....just never got to blog about my lovely haul
from Rosey

Well....to be honest the stash has been claimed by my youngest who will no doubt get to working on it once the temperatures drop (we're still experiencing mostly temps in the mid 30s celcius). I have however claimed this one.....

I had originally planned on stitching a LK design and using it as a birth sampler, but when I saw this in the mail I decided that this would make a sweet sampler :)

Hope to be back in blogland soon!

Take care

Another block bites the dust!

I've had the tune of Queen's 'Änother one bites the dust' play through my mind at random moments whenever I've thought about doing this post :D

As I mentioned before, the plan going forward will be to try and finish at least one of the quilt blocks a week until I get all caught up on this project. I finished the block over Halloween weekend but just haven't had the time to do this post....

If you compared my block with the pic from the instruction sheet, you'll see that I managed to reverse the positioning of my yacht.....I'm such a klutz! But I reckoned that in the greater scheme of things it probably wouldn't be noticeable amongst all the other blocks!

There has been some more crochet taking place.....and Serenity is back into the evening schedule of stitching ......no pics as yet but I'll get there! And I have yet to do my quilt block for this week.....where has the time gone?!?!

I'll also be making a new start soon.....I've decided on a Lizzie Kate design for my new nephew so need to get that on the go too!

Finally....you probably already know but Nancy has another give-away for her primitive threads....so do head over to her blog and enter here :)

Have a fantastic weekend all! I'm off to a Turkish cooking class this afternoon....they cook....I eat.....what could be better :D'

Take care

Spooky greetings all :)  Thanks for popping over to My Little of Cyberspace!

This year has not seen loads of Halloweenie stitching....which is sad as it's really my favourite theme to stitch for! I did manage to stitch this little piece of fun though :)

A little bit of craftiness...

My plan had been to do this post a few days after my last.....seriously! I don't know how more than a week and a bit escaped past my watchful eyes!

So without any further ado......let me share the little bit of craftiness I've been up to :)

I think I may have mentioned that I was knitting a jersey for my soon to be born nephew (still keeping fingers crossed that it'll be ON my birthday!). Well the jersey is finished .....just needs to have the sleeves stitched and it's button put on and voila!

I found this easy top-down pattern here. And when I say easy......I mean E-A-S-Y!!! I had this baby done in two evenings.....and I do NOT knit fast! Marianna has a host of gorgeously cute patterns that will make you want to pick up those knitting needles!

I have indulged my whim to start something new and went rummaging through the stash drawers and containers. I've always found that Lizzie Kate satisfies my needs for a quick, pretty finish....so that's where I ended up heading to :)

Do Your Best by Lizzie Kate

This kit comes with all the bits to make up a pillow.....but I'm not sure that's how I want to finish it! I'm leaning towards a needle book....haven't made one in ages and they're oh so practical! What do you think ?

I've also dusted off my subscription quilt blocks that I've let fall by the wayside and finished two of the blocks from the "Sew & Stitch" magazine series.

When we had that terrible postal strike last year in which my Chatelaines went missing, my subscription copies of the magazine also stopped as they held them back, fearing it would go missing in the mail (a wise decision considering what happened!). Once mail service kind of resumed, I got flooded with so many back issues that it just seemed like too much and I put them on the back burner. But no more! I am determined to do at least one of these blocks every week......which reminds me......this week is about done and I've yet to get cracking.....

Now....I'm pretty sure that the whole of stichy blogland is aware of Nancy's generosity and fantastic giveaways.....there are surprise packages......choose your stash prizes.....fabric prizes
And there's still some time left to enter so please do!

Its SFS reporting time as well......so expect another post soon!

Have a lovely evening all

Take care

I did it!!!

Yes I did! Oh yeah! Oh yeah!

And what has the lunatic woman gone and done I hear you mumbling.......

Well......finished my first 10km race under the cut off time :)

It was fantastic and just felt *right* that my first race was a Women's Race!

Proceeds from the 10km race and 5km fun run goes to Reach for Recovery, which provides emotional and practical support for women with breast cancer.

The Spar Women's Road Race Johannesburg is run as part of 5 series races across the country and is the largest women's series race in the world! Yesterday saw about 13,300 walkers/runners in Johannesburg take to the streets to complete the 5km or 10 km run. This was the last city of the series with the total number of runners over the past few months totalling over 100,000!!!

The boys were allowed to participate too as long as they were all dollied up :D

I'll be back with a more crafty post in a day or so :)

Have fun folks!

SFS September 2015

Month : September
Spent   : $6,50
Earned: Not going to track - will try to remain within the $25 budget!
Carried forward: $68,50

I missed the August report....but didn't have much to report anyway! With the focus being on getting the cottage completed for my parents I hadn't done any shopping. And with our currency now so badly devalued against the dollar I'm not allowing myself to be tempted by anything I've seen online!!

I had to make a much needed DMC purchase though....I ran out of a few of the colours I'm using on Serenity Harbour. Eleven skeins @ $6,50....

I'm still working on Part 5 of Serenity.

This is going to be a lonnggg piece!

Sorry for the rather creased pic!

I'm thinking that I need to pull out something from my stash for a change of scenery ....and I haven't touched my YOTA piece in the past two months!

Today was yet another scorcher....32 celcius!!! And the same expecte tomorrow....

Have a lovely evening folks :)

Take care

Thieves!!......... And Marvelous Mail!!!

Thieves!!!!! They've sneaked up on me and stolen it!!!

Have you seen them?? Have they been around at your place too???

I woke up this morning and August was GONE!!! And September is also an almost distant memory!!!

Things have been busy busy busy in my little patch of sunshine!! Oh and it sure has been a sunshiney patch! Seems the thieves have run off with Spring too!! Our temps have been in the 30s these past few days.....HOT!

I've had builders all over the place the past month. We've been doing some renovations to get Dad -them into their own space, The builders have been amazing......seriously! The  owner is here every day....knocking down walls....building ....climbing up the roof etc etc etc! This is not always the case with builders here....you normally see the owner once or twice and then he leaves the site with just his workers and they normally work at a snail's pace because ....well....who's going to tell them otherwise!! But not Marcus (the builder)! He's here with his son and they are both in the thick of things. They're about done....just adding a few finishing touches and what we've see ......we're really really happy! I'll take pics once they're done :)

On the stitchy front there has not been much happening.....I've been focusing on Serenity Harbour as I am rather behind with this SAL. I didn't quite realise just how MUCH stitching was involved with this piece! But it's a gorgeous stitch and I can't wait to finish it! (and being the numpty that I am....forgot to take a pic before I started this post......I'll include a pic next time!

There has also been a wee bit of crochet taking place.....

This is my son's blankie.....I'm doing a simple "granny stripe" pattern. I know there are probably loads and loads of these patterns out there, but I'm using Lucy, from Attic 24's design as I love how she explains things to a beginner like me and the photos that she almost always tries to include in her tutorials (this one doesn't have the pics, but it's really so well explained by Lucy that you wouldn't need the pics!)!

Now....on to the really really GREAT stuff!

A while back Kim (Wisdom with Needle and Thread) hosted a "Pay It Forward" event and I was one of the lucky lucky chosen ones (saying it like that makes me feel like Luke Skywalker or Bilbo Baggins.....the Chosen :D) I'll be doing a separate post very soon (promise!) on what exactly the PIF involves, but have to share Kim's absolutely gorgeous gifts....

I know it wouldn't be very polite to stick my tongue out and blow raspberries....but I feel like a little kid with a new toy that no one else has! :D

Thanks to our dire postage delivery service (it's a year now and still no sign of my Chattelaine charts!) these arrived last week. Thank you thank you thank you Kim! I love my gifts! You are an amazingly talented needlewoman!

As always in this neck of the woods, when it mails....it MAILS! I also received my lovely stitched envelope from Lynda! I was spoiled! Thank you so much Lynda

Now do you guys see why I say I was spoiled???? My kids were fascinated by the shells andsmooth glass "pebbles".... it's got it's own spot in the display shelves :)

On an absolutely totally and completely non stitchy note........I am now a registered road runner with Athletics South Africa and have received my licence number :)

I'll be running my first 10k next month......I'm so excited!! I'll no doubt finish it last.....BUT....I will finish it :)

Now....let me stop bothering all you lovely people with my rambling!

I'll be back to do the SFS post!!! I missed that last month as well .....OOPS!

Take care

SFS July 2015

Month : July
Spent   : $0
Earned: Not going to track - will try to remain within the $25 budget!
Carried forward: $25

As with the first 6 months of the SFS challenge, I'm going to be tracking my spend (if any!) in US dollars......though with the currency exchange rate being what it is....postage being what it is....and the fact that I've decided until my Chatellaine charts ordered in November last year gets here , I won't be doing any serious online purchasing.....
what was I mumbling in about........
Oh yes! I was trying to say that it is rather unlikely that I'll be making any huge purchases these few months!

This is week 2 of the old folks's stay and we're still taking each day as it happens....not only is the cliate here vastly different to Cape Town's, the people and drivers and culture is too!

I've not done any stitching this past week.....I just can't seem to get my mojo going! I'm thinking maybe just starting something new, or getting out one of the really old WIPS (or should that be UFOs!) will help get things back on track. Think I'll try that this weekend!

Hope you're all been keeping well and enjoying your stitchy time!

Take care

Honey...I'm home!!

Bet you thought I'd done a runner again huh ?! :D
It has been a while since my last post.....and I've been absent from most of your blogs for a while....and for that I do apologise! It's been a rather busy and chaotic time. So....to make up for my absence I thought it best to bore you with a long detailed post on what I've been up to :D

First there were my internet and email woes.....
See...here in South Africa.....we have the most inept bunch of ninnies running things. We experience power outages on a regular basis....well....not really outages as these are planned ....you get cut off the power grid for 4 hours when the demand is too much for our wonderful State run power supply company. These regular outages..... called load-shedding... have played absolute havoc with not only our ability to cook and do normal things like watch telly or read at night....but also with all other electrical equipment...such as the ADSL router. So no internet connectivity...no lights....no telly....radio....oh....and if it carries on for long enough no hot water as the geysers won't heat up. But....enough of that....just wanted to paint the picture of what the bunch of crazies running this country has been up to. Oh.....and then.....for a cheek....they applied to increase the electricity tariffs by almost 25%! Needless to say that was shot down!

So....what else.....

Ahhhh.....then there has been the BIG MOVE....
See....my Dad is diabetic....and has chronic kidney failure...so needs dialysis thrice a week. My Mum is hard of hearing and has her own set of medical conditions. Hubby and I decided that as I am now at home, it would be better for them if they moved to Johannesburg to be with us. This has been a really difficult time for them....they have lived in Cape Town their whole life.....and the house for over 35 years. Having to put the house on the market was not an easy thing. As it was the school holidays, we all went down to be with them and help with some packing and then we all flew back together, Most of their things will follow later. It's been a week and they are settling.....well...not quite settling..that will take a while longer I think....but they know that we're doing this for them and because we do worry about them being alone in that large house...if Mum falls at night, Dad is too weak to help her and if he'd had dialysis the day he'd be in no condition to even get to her! And if Dad get's ill  at night...Mum would't be able to hear him as she is is quite frankly deaf if her hearing aid is removed! So...we are trying to make them comfortable and let them know that we really do want them with us-it's not easy if you've been independent to now hand over some of those burdens. And of course my 2 cats are not happy with the fact that Mum has brought her cat along as well....so there's been lots of kitty growls and angry hisses to deal with as well!

On the good news front.....my youngest sister and her boyfriend decided that before the old folks moved, they wanted to get married :) SO an impromptu, small and informal little wedding was held before we left. They will have a bigger reception in the new year :) Oh.....and my nephew is due in January! So excited about that! I've been looking at knitting patterns ....what to knit/crochet!! Oh....and a baby sampler is called for too!!!

Now....I haven't forgotten that this is essentially supposed to be a stitchy blog :D
I've been doing very little of that.....but I did manage to get a few stitches into my YOTA piece....even though I didn't get to post my progress last month! I've been working on it sporadically....so expect pics in the next YOTA post!

I think I mentioned at some point that I had signed up do participate in a Stitched Envelope Exchange organised by Mii Stitch. Oh what fun that was! I decided to stitch  "A Quaker Envelope" featured in A Gift of Stitching, Issue 15 April 2007. And as it has safely arrived with Mii.....I can share pics :)

Without any further ado......

The back of the envelope

Stitched card
"Bebunni" card kit
The World of Cross Stitching, Issue 227

A little bit of goodies to fill the envelope....
The card is covering the address on the front of the envelope :)

I've also been working on "Summer"....and am so close to finishing it I can hear the music of my happy dance :D

"Sunflowers in Summer"by CCN
Stitched on 30ct Cocoa Linen using the recommended threads

I bet you're wondering what still needs doing before I can start doing a mad crazy celebratory shuffle!
Well....for starters....this....

Bit difficult to see....but that line just below the sunflower? Well.....there's about 10 stitches that's missing the top arm of the X

And then there's this.....

Well....there's a bee missing between the two leaves

That's really it! Like I said....not much stitching taking place....Serenity needs attention ....as does my Drawn Thread Sampler......too much to stitch and too little time!!

Have a lovely weekend you beauties :) I'm oing to be trying to play catch up on all your blogs!

Take care
